Bio
Jessica Day Smith is a Utah-based artist whose work explores motherhood, family, spirituality, color, and the sacred texture of everyday life. Her paintings often draw from domestic scenes, art history, pattern, and expressive mark-making. Working across figurative subjects, florals, and studies, Jessica creates work that feels personal, layered, and rooted in the life she lives.
Artist statement
My work is about womanhood, motherhood, spirituality, and the sacredness of ordinary life. I return often to images of family, early Christian art, expressive abstraction, quilts, texture, and domestic spaces. Color gives the work emotion; pattern and surface create movement, tension, and interest. I am drawn to the relationship between classic composition and expressive painting, using familiar subjects to explore care, history, memory, and the quiet weight of daily life.
